Generalities of the Americas

History of the name “Americas”:

America was discovered in 1492 by Christopher Columbus. He called this continent Las Indias. Amerigo Vespucci said that these lands had to be called Las Indias Occidentales to differ one to another. It also was called Nuevo Mundo.
This continent was called America because Martin Waldseemuller gave this name because of the investigations of Vespucci.
